Tue, Nov 3, 2020 - 9:00 AM PACIFIC TIME - Nov 3 - Defense Media Activity (DMA) - Source Sought Webinar - Public Digital Services The Department of Defense (DoD) uses websites to communicate information and effectively engage the American public. DMA provides DoD information through the web supporting DoD open government. Content is authorized for release and then posted to public websites. DMA currently hosts approximately 1,000 public-facing web sites for the Military Departments, Joint Staff and Combatant Commands, and Department of Defense Agencies and DoD Field Activities, including Defense.gov. A list of our customers is here: https://www.dma.mil/Services/DODPublic- Web/ Concurrently, DMA maintains and manages a Digital Asset Management (DAM) System that is access-controlled for the upload of media (still image, video, audio and graphics) with associated user-provided metadata. Users (access-controlled) submit metadata and can change the metadata of uploaded media, also known as digital assets. The current DAM system holds more than three million individual assets and is expected to continue to grow exponentially: https://www.dvidshub.net/ DMA seeks future-looking, scalable capabilities and best practices to efficiently provide digital engagement services that ensure public availability of information through websites, hosting, and digital asset management functions. Simply put we wish to store digital assets once, with all required metadata, and tap into the repository for several purposes: Proactively presenting individual assets to the public via multiple simultaneous means, methods, and formats (Public Engagement), Passively allowing DoD and public search and discovery of assets for public or DoD use (Sharing), and Manage the collection of assets, curating the assets and eventually transferring some assets to the National Archives (Official Records keeping).
